Olivia Chantecaille is no stranger to the beauty industry. As Creative Director of Chantecaille, a luxury skincare and cosmetics company known for using natural botanicals and its dedication to nature, both as an inspiration and involvement in environmental causes.Olivia has been immersed in the world of beauty since a very young age, no doubt in part to her mother, Sylvie, the company’s creator. We caught up with Olivia and asked about her inspirations, beauty secrets, and must-have products.Who and what are your inspirations? My inspirations are the women in my family: my mother, sister and myself, along with the women who buy our products around the world. I also get many of my colour ideas from nature because of my passion for flowers, plants and the beauty of the ocean. Our Fall 2009 palette was inspired by my mother, Sylvie, and her effortless elegance and style. Her palette is extremely wearable for all women and extremely simple to use.
My favourite products have to be our signature Pure Rosewater for it’s calming and soothing properties, our Future Skin Foundation for it’s natural and flawless coverage, and my Olivia Palette because it has every shadow I could ever need for any situation in one slim case. What about bargain beauty products? My favourite bargain product is Rosebud Salve. It lasts forever. What’s one item you MUST pack for every trip? I have a lot of “must pack” items but when it comes to traveling I have to have our Jasmine and Lily Healing Mask because after a long flight, it helps to rehydrate and balance my skin, plus it can double as a cream or as makeup remover. What’s the best beauty advice you ever received and what’s the best advice you’ve given your friends? I always like to stick to the rule of thumb that less is more. I love makeup but I don’t like to wear too much especially as I get older… I feel like it ages me. Clean and fresh makeup is much more modern and youthful. What’s your favourite beauty ritual or treatment? How do you pamper yourself at home? My favourite way to pamper myself when I have the time is to take a warm bath with essential oils and a mask on my face. I start with our Fruit and Flower Acids Mask to gently and effectively remove dead skin and then follow it with our Biodynamic Lifting Mask to iron out wrinkles. The heat of the bath helps my skin to better absorb the masks and I get to relax. What’s one makeup trend you’re seeing for this season? One trend I am seeing this season is some version of a red lip. Depending on your skin tone it can be a berry red, like our new Heirloom Lip Chic, or a brighter yellow red, like our Amaryllis Lip Chic. What makeup trend do you want to see disappear for good? The old dark lip liner with the pale gloss in the middle is a trend that I would not mind to see disappear. Tell us about the charities that Chantecaille donates to… how do you choose them? We are very passionate about ocean conservation and donate to different ocean related causes every year. We hope to raise awareness for each of them through our products, and it’s very difficult to choose our charities because there are so many that we would like to help. Who’s beauty style do you most admire and why? I meet amazing, beautiful women everyday who inspire me to be a better person but my one constant inspiration has to be my mother. |
